Ray Jordan Wine of the Week 19th June 2014
Domaine Naturaliste Syrah 2012.
Bruce Dukes knows a thing or two about making wine, having produced a swag of medal-winners for many different labels owned by other people. Now he is doing his own thing. This is an interesting take on this wine style. Dukes picks the fruit a little earlier than usual to capture the spicy elegance he seeks to achieve with Margaret River Shiraz. Then he adds a little Malbec for complexity and palate feel before dropping it into a small amount of French oak. The result is a fragrant almost atypically Australian style of Shiraz with lovely spices and primary fruit characters plus an appealing medium-bodied weight in the mouth. 93/100
