2022 Purus Chardonnay

Pure white fruits | Minerality | French oak

Purus is a translation of pristine flavours, textures and climate of southern Margaret River Chardonnay into wine.  The vines have been carefully managed to allow only dappled light into the fruiting zone. This promotes flavour development, low tannins and bright levels of natural acidity.

Pure perfumes of white pear, jasmine flower and wet granite are elegantly suspended above a palate carved from grapefruit pith and white nectarine flesh. Lashings of focused white fruit tannin and porcelain texture and length culminate in a sheer wall of quenching minerality and bristling tension.

96pts Huon Hooke, The Real Review "Light yellow colour with a bouquet of oatmeal, cream, hazelnuts and smoky toast oak undercurrents. Intense, rich palate with delicacy as well as generosity; a more ample wine that the Floris and more complex, still subtle and refined, with terrific length and precision."

95pts Ray Jordan "A thoroughly beautiful chardonnay expressing this variety with a pristine purity. Highly minerally opening with a little sea spray over the richer notes of nectarine and white peach. On the palate a slice of pear and a little lime add another dimensions. Strikes an ideal balance of fruit and oak. One of Dukes' best under this label. A beauty."

The 2021 to 2022 growing season in Margaret River was one of the highlights in my 33 years of winemaking.  Gentle and sustained sunny days provided fruit characterized by intense aromatics, coating natural acidity, and ultra-fine tannin and tension.

Dijon Clone Chardonnay

Hand picked, whole cluster pressed. The cloudy juice was wild fermented in French Oak Barriques. In order to preserve the purity of fruit and natural acidity, the wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation.

40% new 228L French oak barrels for 10 months with low toast levels. The wood is primarily from the Vosges and Allier forests.
