2023 Purus Chardonnay
Pure white fruits | Minerality | French oak
Pure white fruits | Minerality | French oak
Purus is a translation of pristine flavours, textures and climate of southern Margaret River Chardonnay into wine. The vines have been carefully managed to allow only dappled light into the fruiting zone. This promotes flavour development, low tannins and bright levels of natural acidity.
Pure perfumes of white pear, jasmine flower and wet granite are elegantly suspended above a palate carved from grapefruit pith and white nectarine flesh. Lashings of focused white fruit tannin and porcelain texture and length culminate in a sheer wall of quenching minerality and bristling tension.
96pts Ray Jordan "Quite a different take on the Artus is this more classically defined modern expression of the variety. There is a pristine purity evident immedidately with a floral cut lime and pear lift on the nose. Then the palate coils and tightens as it extends through to a very long finish. An elegant wine with a purity and finesse that is so appealing."
95pts James Suckling & Top 100 Australian Wines 2024 "The nose is wonderfully giving and inviting with complex aromas of lemon curd, orange blossoms, oyster shells and sea spray. The medium-bodied palate has high-tension acidity and generous mouthfeel, giving notes of grapefruit pith, jasmine and gunsmoke. Mineral with an uderlying power and salty finish. Very good."
93+pts Gary Walsh, Winefront "White peach, grapefruit, spicy clove and ginger oak, green olive and fennel, white flowers. It’s a tight wine, distinct green olive and lime rind bite, a little sour yoghourt, and quite some acidity here, a powdery chalky texture, with an olive brine savoury finish of zip and good length. It’s shelly and maybe sits on the cusp of ripeness, though it does have energy, and, I feel a bit of upside given a few more years in bottle."

A sensational growing season. A moderate spring and start to summer allowed for slow and consistent flavour development, followed by a warm and dry finish leading into Autumn. The wines are bold and flavoursome, boasting exceptional concentration and intensity.
