2023 Rebus Cabernet Sauvignon
Brooding red fruit | Engaging tannins
Brooding red fruit | Engaging tannins
Rebus Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine crafted to stay true to its heritage as an icon of the Margaret River region. Our first release was in 2012. Since then, Rebus has made friends with people and proteins across Australia.
An intricate tapestry of glazed cherries, violets and graphite, deftly woven into a palate laden with flavours of red currants, cacao nib and plum skin. Bristling tannin on the entry and a tensile core of liquorish, black berries and slate, culminates in a persistent and ever-changing mineral finish.
95pts Halliday Wine Companion "All the fabulous varietal and regional aromas plus flavours are on full display thanks to an excellent vintage. A neat combo of violets, mulberries, blackcurrants and all manner of baking spices, especially cinnamon with mocha, licorice and coffee grinds. Full-bodied, ripe, sweet fruit floods the palate, so too lots of cedary oak, and yet the tannins are fine and the acidity equally fine. Good drinking today, even better with more time."
94pts Gary Walsh, Winefront "The quality of the fruit here is excellent, and it really pops with bright blue and purple crushed grapes, sports a bit of coffee barrel char and reduction as at now, but if you look past that there’s quite some perfume, aromatic spice, black olive, and very good structure. It has some chew to tannin, and offers freshness and a vibrant character, and the finish is long and firm. Give it a year or two in the cellar, and I’m sure you’ll be well rewarded."
93pts Ray Jordan "So you want to know how good 2023 was for red wines in Margaret River? Well, check this thoroughly engaging pure vibrant fruit-dominant Cabernet. Bursting with punchy red fruits with overtones of violet and cherry. The palate is medium-bodied with a seamless oak and fruit integration. Just a beautiful wine for drinking in the short term."

The 2022 to 2023 growing season in Margaret River was one of the highlights in my 33 years of winemaking. Gentle and sustained sunny days provided fruit characterized by intense aromatics, coating natural acidity, and ultrafine tannin and tension.
